Each edition is a reflection of its time. Trends came and went. Species were coming back from oblivion. Great careers began in the blink of an eye. They often ended just as quickly. During the twenty years of the festival's existence, clubs opened and closed on the Polish scene, and various places competed for the top spot: Poznań, Warsaw, Kraków, Tricity... There has always been one capital of electronic music. First Płock, then Łódź. In 2006, the main stars of the festival were Goldie, Mathew Johnson and Desyn Masiello. The latter overshadowed Paul Kalkbrenner on the poster, but this could be the last time the German's name was written in smaller letters. Minimal reigned supreme. Catz 'n Dogz still played as 3 Channels, and Leon and Glasse did not close the festival with a joint b2b, but played separately. Back then, the appropriate dress code was still important: no tracksuits, white gloves or whistles, and you could learn about the festival not from social media, but from the then popular Grono. Looking back at older lineups is fascinating from today's perspective. In 2007, the promising Jamie Jones played almost a warmup. Already then, for the first time, the festival was appreciated by Resident Advisor, which included it on the list of the best events of July. The situation repeated itself many times. In 2008, Damian Lazarus came for the first time, and Ricardo Villalobos played a four-hour set until 7 am. This is how the legend of Circus was born. In 2009, Moderat came to Poland for the first time, and Chase & Status played at Hybrid, where drum & bass was present only on Friday. On Saturday, the stage belonged to experimental artists from Berlin. In 2010, the festival took second place in the RA ranking, and the first announced star was Richie Hawtin with the Plastikman project, with which he returned after many years. Laurent Garnier and Four Tet also played live. The beginning of the last decade was the moment when Audioriver marked its position on the European festival map for good. He received nominations for UK Festival Awards, European Festival Awards and started winning Munoludy every year. In the following years, they performed, among others: Röyksopp, Trentemøller, Modestep, Kavinsky, Roni Size, Rudimental, Jeff Mills, Gesaffelstein, Amelie Lens, Tale of Us, Underworld, Charlotte de Witte, Crystal Castles and Sven Väth. In 2016, the fathers of techno music from Detroit came to Płock: Carl Craig, Robert Hood and The Belleville Three, i.e. Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, and their deep house neighbor: Moodymann. With each subsequent year, however, it was clear that the audience was looking for new, increasingly heavier sounds. The Kosmos stage, focused on modern techno, has joined the festival's permanent repertoire. By the year of the pandemic, Audioriver had sold out seven times, and the beach in Płock was bursting at the seams. Just like the increasingly smaller accommodation base in the city. In 2022, the festival celebrated its 15th anniversary together with Solomun, Bicep and Adriatique, but logistical problems began already then. The artists slept in Warsaw, and it was difficult to find accommodation for employees. And given the scale of the festival, there were already about a thousand of them. The solution was to move to Łódź. The festival has found its place in Łódź Błonia, where every year it presents more and more bold ideas for adapting this area. This year will be no different. The anniversary edition of Audioriver promises to be a treat for fans of the greatest artists and their audiovisual projects, chamber sounds played in nature and high-octane performances, both in terms of 4x4 music and drum & bass.
For concerts, the biggest decisions concern floor vs stands, entry timing and transport after a late finish. Before buying a ticket, it helps to review the venue layout and plan the return trip in advance.
The organiser points to Łódź as the event city, but without a clearly confirmed venue in the current portal data. Before planning the trip, it is worth checking the official event update and confirming the exact entrance and access rules.
